Michael Denenga

Michael serves on the Advisory Board of Senatla Capital Empowerment Fund II (“SCEF II”).

Michael is a finance and investment funds specialist. He has over 15 years of post-qualification experience in advising on the formation of investment funds (including private equity, hedge funds, real estate and venture capital funds). Michael has structured private equity funds and hedge funds in South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, Cayman Islands, Luxembourg and Guernsey. Michael also has experience in advising fund managers on their downstream transactions including banking and finance, and mergers and acquisitions. 

His expertise has been recognised by a number of international publications, including Legal 500, Chambers Global, Best Lawyers and IFLR1000. In 2016 Michael was an African Legal Awards finalist in the category “Attorney of the year”. Best Lawyers has recognised Michael in the Private Equity Law category for 2018, 2019 and 2020.

He is a graduate of Rhodes University where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. Michael has represented various fund managers including but not limited to Identity Fund Managers, Takura Capital Partners, Summit Private Equity, Sampada Private Equity, Capitalworks, Senatla Capital, RH Managers, Sesfikile Capital and Edge Growth.Michael has also represented various investors such as the PIC, AFDB, Stanlib, BPOPF, Old Mutual and many others in respect of their investments into fund structures.
